UNI Women have a new top team. After leading UNI Women through the global union’s first eight years and three months of existence, Barbara Easterling and Monique Marti are stepping aside.
Barbara is retiring from the President’s position in May and retiring from her union (the Communication Workers of America) in June. UNI Women’s Officer Monique is retiring from UNI very shortly. |

The new President is to be Denise McGuire of Connect UK - elected by UNI Women’s world committee meeting in Nyon - and the committee welcomed the appointment of Veronica Fernandes Mendez to replace Monique with a new title of Equal Opportunities Officer.
The changes at the top are reflected in the departure of some key, long serving members of the Women’s Committee as a new generation takes up the reins. Veronica is currently Training and Cultural Secretary with the Argentine gaming union ALEARA and is an active member of the Argentine women’s network that was so prominent during the UNI-Americas Regional Conference in Mar del Plata a year ago. “I am proud, honoured and grateful,” Veronica told the committee. “I have been given a once in a lifetime opportunity. It’s a job, a vocation and a life’s project that has run through my veins since childhood.” "I feel very humble at this moment," Denise told the committee. "I am very honoured". |
Several speakers thanked Barbara and Monique and praised them for their contribution to the work of UNI Women from the global union's launch. “They laid the foundations,” said Susana de Rueda of SANIDAD Argentina. “We learned how to be in harmony together.”
