Recently UNI Head of Department and representatives from the CWU South Africa and countries where Vodafone operates, met with the CEO of the Vodacom Group, Allan Knott-Craig. At the meeting Mr Knott-Craig said on several occasions he respected unions and their right to organise and represent workers. Apparently in the article that UNI put on their web page immediately after the meeting, Mr Knott Craig believes we misquoted him. From UNI's perspective Neil Anderson says that on several occasions during the meeting Mr Knott Craig told him that he respected workers rights to join a union and he expected everyone in his company to respect human rights and workers rights. This was discussed in a general context in respect of Vodacom operations throughout Africa and the content of the recognition agreement between Vodacom and the CWU South Africa was not discussed in any detail.
