CWU today (Wednesday) condemns the move by Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe to move manufacturing work from Birmingham to America costing 120 jobs.

 

Bill McClory, Deputy General Secretary, said: “This is an unforgivable move by Fujitsu which will cause painful redundancies in the manufacturing sector which has already suffered cuts in recent years. We condemn this move by the company and will fight the transfer of jobs abroad.”

 

Staff at the Birmingham office were unexpectedly notified this afternoon of the intention of the company. There will now be a 90 day consultation period over the proposal. The CWU will be meeting on Friday to discuss next steps in response to the announcement.
