Wackenhut/G4S Worker Leroy Johnson from Chicago USA, visited Delhi in February to see first hand what the situation for security workers is in India.

Leroy was fired by G4S as a result of his attempts to organize his fellow workers into a union. Overwhelmed by the conditions and problems workers in India faced, Leroy was also humbled as Indian security workers signed a banner to support him in his own struggle, a sign of how global links can bring hope to workers facing the same problems all over the world. Meeting over 100 workers in a few days, Leroy was able to talk directly with workers on the job, and discovered many of the same issues existed for Indian workers as did for workers in the USA. Common problems included: long hours; no job security; low pay; no consultation and reduction of conditions when contracts change and they are transferred or employed by the new security contract company. Proud to have visited the land of Gandhi, Leroy returned to Chicago with a new energy to organize and fight for workers rights.
