The CWU is currently locked in outstanding wage negotiations with TSTT and workers have staged several protests recently to highlight their grievances with the company. On Monday CWU officials lead TSTT workers in a placard demonstration outside the company's mobile office at Library Corner, San Fernando. Nevertheless, a day later the union officials met with the management and announced hoping to sign an agreement for a wage increase for employees by next week. Several matters were discussed at the meeting, including the need for management to agree to a 15 percent increase in salaries and allowances.



Joseph Remy, CWU president general, said: “Inflation is 15.4 percent, and we are on 2005 salary, it has completely eroded the purchasing power of our workers so what we are saying is bring us some relief, bring us to 2007 and we will discuss anything from 2008 going forward.”



Earlier this week three technicians were attacked and robbed at gunpoint while carrying out duties in Arima last week. CWU president, Joseph Remmy, said the workers were attacked while carrying out their legitimate duty in a community in Arima. He said the union has repeatedly asked TSTT to provide adequate security and more patrols so workers "could feel comfortable" while on duty, but the company has taken no action.
