Security officers from across the U.S. came together with hundreds of Service Employees International Union (SEIU) members and not-yet-union workers in Washington, DC to send a message to members of Congress that all working people should be able to form unions without management interference. Officers from Securitas and other private security contractors urged their representatives to support the Employee Free Choice Act which would ensure that workers, not just CEOs, benefit from the economic prosperity they help create.

"I told my Senator how it is: the only way to raise standards in the private security industry - for those we protect and for our own

families - is for all officers to have a union," said Steve Tilsley an SEIU member who works for Securitas in Denver, Colorado.



This week, officers will be out en masse talking to other officers in their home states to build more support for this legislation that so many Americans already believe is essential to a broad economic recovery. Incredibly, more than $49 billion could be pumped into the economy every year from workers negotiating for better wages, benefits and working conditions.
