More than 1000 trade unionists from the four Belgian financial sector unions - SETca, CNE, LBC-NVK and CGSLB - gathered in Brussels on 24 March. They launched an urgent call to their government for a deep reform of the financial system, more consultation and participation of trade unions in the process and for a collective agreement guaranteeing rights and income for workers in the sector.



"We are here together, I am here together with you, because we want things to change," said UNI-Europa Regional Secretary Bernadette Ségol.  She underlined the European and global dimension of the crisis and the role that trade unions at all level should be playing.



The demonstration was part of the UNI finance week of action. Unions around the world are publicly calling for a new business model in the industry that puts people ahead of profits and promotes workers' rights and the responsible sale of financial products.



The Belgian unions have launched a charter that outlines their call for a new financial future. In this charter, they call for financial institutions to ensure:

• Job security and decent work for finance workers.
• Transparency and honesty towards customers.
• Sustainable policies and profits.
• Social dialogue and collective bargaining rights for all workers.
• Higher capital requirements.
• Contribution to local economies and communities.
• Socially responsible remuneration schemes and returns for shareholders.
