Bro. Noh Jong-Myun, YTN union president of NUMW(Korean Media Workers Union) was arrested at home and detained on 22 March the day before the union was going to start its strike. The strike was called after negotiations for a collective agreement broke down. Management of YTN has repressed the union immediately after it was formed in 2008. It dismissed six of their leaders and took other union members to court. All union members in the company are put under pressure and face threats regularly. Despite multiple offers of YTN union negotiations for a collective agreement broke down recently and which provoked the strike action.



UNI MEI demands the immediate release of Bro. No Jong-Myun. We call on the management of YTN to stop the actions taken against the union and its leaders and restart negotiations on the renewal of the collective agreement.
