The two leaders, Indiran Carpanen and Raj Rughoonath, were dismissed for concerted union activity in August 2008. Raj Rughoonath accepted his position when Indiren Carpanen refused to come to work for Mauritius Telecom.



After the dismissal, UNI Telecom global union wrote a letter of protest calling on Mauritius Telecom to reinstate two union leaders dismissed for their activities in MTEA union. The letter can be seen at;

Since Mauritius Telecom is owned by France Telecom (a company which has signed a Global Agreement with UNI), this issue was raised by the FT Global Trade Union Alliance in the meetings with the management.
