Collective bargaining have failed: Austrian employers demand wage reductions of 13%, for printers by 27%.



An important argument of the Austrian employers: the competition from Germany. Labor costs in Germany have fallen that much that Austrian companies cannot compete any longer. Therefore wages should be lowered.



ver.di urges their members to support their colleagues in the industrial action in Austria.



There is evidence that the Austrian employer will attempt to print in Germany in case of strikes. This is actually already planned at the Passauer Neue Presse.



ver.di urgently asked its members, if strike breaking activities are planned at their plants, to reject them and, where appropriate, to also go on strike.



Workers cannot be obliged to do strike breaking work. They are advised to indicate to their employers that strike breaking work will not be carried out in the respective plant.



ver.di officials in Berlin should be informed immediately about any attempt to strike breaking requests.
