UNI Global Union is mourning the loss of colleague Emanuel Gronostay, who died of a heart attack on June 10 at the UNI Communicators’ Forum in Cyprus.
“We were not all lucky enough to know Emanuel personally but we know many things about him,” said UNI General Secretary Philip Jennings. “We know that he was committed to justice and equality, to human rights and the fight for human dignity and to the belief that when people work together they can achieve far more than they would on their own.”
Emanuel joined the central administration of ver.di in October 2008 as head of the communications and marketing department. In his time there he greatly influenced the public relations activity at ver.di and helped ver.di members fight for collective bargaining rights and was active in campaigns for social workers and educators.
He also put his stamp on the press coverage of the demonstration for social justice and workers rights organised by the European Trade Union Confederation in Berlin on May 16.
Emanuel was 47 years old. He leaves behind his wife and two sons.

Our dear brother Emanuel was a UNI Communicator. He sadly passed away while attending the June 2009 UNI Communicators' Forum in Cyprus. It came as a shock to all of us, not only the attendees but UNI as a whole. He passed away at the very young age of 47 and his family and friends selflessly donated gifts to 47 children in Mongolia, the same number as his age.
During the June 26-July 1 UNI-LCJapan, UNI-LCMongolia Youth Seminar, the attendees, including the 6 LCJ youth members gave out gifts on the streets of Ulaanbaatar to children in need. The remaining 41 gifts were handed out with the help of a local television studio.
