Quebecor Inc., former parent of Quebecor World, launched an insert printing and distribution unit. The move, which places the company in competition with its former subsidiary, will unit subsidiary Quebecor Media’s alex Media Services, Messageries Dynamiques community weekly distribution network and printing plants in Islington, ON and Mirabel, QB.



The company reports it invested over $250 million in the printing plants, which it says will “quickly position itself as the industry leader.” Last year, Quebecor Media distributed more than 1.5 billion inserts in Canada.



The news of the new unit was announced on the same day creditors of the firm’s former Quebecor

World unit were originally set to vote on a restructuring plan for the bankrupt company. The vote was postponed until Monday.



In December, Quebecor Inc. unsuccessfully tried to prevent Quebecor World from buying printing presses—the company purchased three manroland Lithoman S presses—arguing that the two companies had a previous verbal agreement in which the printer would use excess capacity at a printing press owned by Quebecor Media.
