The Belgian trade unions FGTB, CSC and ACLVB, the European Transport Workers’ Federation (ETF) and UNI Europa organised a press conference in front of DHL Worldwide in Brussels yesterday afternoon in order to bring visibility to the current situation occurring at Deutsche Post DHL’s European Express Headquarters in Brussels.  In June 2009, DHL announced restructuring measures for its European Express Headquarters that will affect over 200 jobs.  Despite pressure from the three Belgian trade unions who have accrued the requisite 25% + members needed for social bargaining, the company has continually avoided negotiations with the unions.  UNI Europa and ETF, along with representatives from the Belgian unions came out in force Tuesday afternoon to protest Deutsche Post DHL’s potential plan.  Cristina Tilling, ETF Political Secretary for European Works' Councils, along with Esther Bares from UNI Europa, addressed the crowd, composed of journalists, DHL employees and Belgian unionists, declaring DHL’s actions to be unjust and unwarranted, rightly claiming that DHL has no solid justification for their actions.  The two representatives from the ETF and UNI Europa pledged their solidarity with the plight of the workers stating that this is only the fist step in a campaign to get European-wide union recognition at company level. They will continue to promote ethical practices in Deutsche Post DHL in order to preserve the jobs and social well being of the 200 + people who stand to be made redundant.
