The European Union will be funding 40 international film cooperation projects in 2009 in the amount of €5 million. The decision, announced by the European Commission on 18 September under the Media International programme (2008-2010), will give film companies the chance to learn new skills and promote the industry by cooperating with professionals outside Europe and vice-versa. The European Parliament approved, last December, a budget of €5 million for Media International in 2009, a €2 million increase over 2008. In 2009 a total of 23 training projects will be funded, involving European and global professionals with the aim of improving understanding of operating conditions, legal frameworks and financing of audiovisual markets abroad.
