According to Lech Kaczynski, President of the Republic, who drafted the bill, “the current legislation doesn’t protect permanent workers enough from lay-offs simply justified by the will to replace them with temporary workers who are not as protected.”

The bill was sent to the parliament which would have to decide if to adopt the proposed amendments.

The proposed amendments include increase of the period during which it isn’t possible to replace permanent workers with temporary workers (from three to six months) as well as provide for a wider range of user companies’ offences to legislation on temporary work (e.g. replacing a striker by a temporary worker or asking a temporary worker to perform a particularly dangerous task).

There are around 2.000 temp employment agencies in Poland employing about 60 thousand workers per day.
