UNI Apro YOUth Breaking Thru in Nagasaki

As a lead up to the Nagasaki Congress in November this year, UNI Apro youth are doing their part in prepping up to the 10th year anniversary of UNI Global Union. With the kind support from NWJ, this Manila youth workshop which is now in its 5th year, undergone a ‘facelift’ to give a focus on the Nagasaki Congress in addition to the site visit to better understand social movement unionism at the Payatas area. With the successful signing of the UNI PLC youth with a University in the Philippines, the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM for short), UNI Apro youth ambassadors were sent to the univiersity to deliver lectures and to interact with the college students.
Participants were assigned to 4 teams, each with a mission (and a list of tasks) to complete during the workshop – the Marketing Committee; Payatas Committee; Energizer Committee; and Nagasaki Committee.

On Day 3, UNI Apro Youth Goes to Campus, where participants delivered lectures and presentations to introduce to graduating students about a range of topics relevant to young workers. After spending a 2 hr seminar in the auditorium with 90 graduating students from various disciplines (tourism, nursing, management, media etc), the workshop participants also had to set up various booths to reach out to the student population during the crowded lunch time to continue their advocacy activities such as talking to students about the importance of trade unionism, signing up to the peace campaign, appreciation of international cultures and sharing with the students the activities that UNI PLC youth has in the Philippines. All these were made possible with the strong partnership between the UNI PLC youth committee and the PLM student council with the support of the University which we hope to contribute to laying a foundation for a vibrant youth trade union movement in the country.
