America Movil shareholders yesterday approved the purchase of Carso Global Telecom and Telmex Internacional.



America Movil is Latin America's largest mobile operator and will make an offer for Carso Global Telecom, which controls Mexico's No. 1 fixed-line carrier, and Telmex Internacional.



If this deal is successful, the company will dominate the Latin American market with 250 million customers.



Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim, recently named the world's richest person, and his family have controlling stakes in the four companies.



America Movil has stated its intention to delist Carso Global Telecom and Telemx Internacional from the stock exchanges where they are traded. Telmex will remain a stand-alone, publicly traded company.
