Junus Ndaro, Secretary General of Tanzania's Telecommunication Workers' Union, TEWUTA, today issued a statement of support for all workers in the country's public and private sectors. Workers will take action on 5 May 2010 in support of their claims for a fair wage, called by the Tanzania Congress of Trade Unions (TCTU).



The TCTU called the action after long negotiations in which the unions demand to raise a minimum wage for public service employees, to reduce percentage of pay as you earn ( PAYE) tax deducted from employees' monthly salaries and to harmonize payments made to retired employees done differently by social security institutions around the country.
