New Cooperative is Launched by Finance Union in Nepal

Reaching out to serve the members while they are in service through multi purpose services and taking care of their needs after retirement is our main goal; said Lekh Prasad Buralakoti President of UNI Nepal Liaison Council at the launching of FIEUN’s new Savings and Loans Cooperative in Nepal. Finance Institutions Employees Union of Nepal [FIEUN] is a UNI finance affiliates which represent about 13,000 employees in 27 finance institutions in Nepal. FIEUN represents finance industry employees in both Public and Private sector enterprises. On the eve of launching of FIEUN’s cooperative movement, they have also organized a workshop for new generation Bank employees in the private sector banks in Nepal on the 17th July 2010. K C Ganesh President of FIEUN thanked UNI Apro for all the guidance and support extended to develop the finance employee’s federation in Nepal. Furthermore, he said that they count on UNI Apro to help them to set up the FIEUN cooperative to serve the members better. He further said that this step will also help them to unionise more members from the industry. Nepal being a developing country the cooperative movement is yet to take its roots. Therefore the rich experience of UNI affiliates who are running similar cooperatives through the trade union movement is something they are looking for as a role model.
