The General Secretary of the Zambia Graphical and Allied Workers Union David Mwaba said that the agreement has been reached on various conditions of service and also included a wage increment.



He said that ZAGRAWU is now representing employees at Nampak- Ndola Plant and that all conditions of service have been harmonised to bring them in line with the conditions at Lusaka plant.



Employees at Lusaka plant have been awarded an increment of 10.5% over and above the inflation rate of 7.9%



Employees at Ndola plant have received an increment of 10% across the board. Funeral grants have also been improved to as much as &1,000 for death of employee and $850 for death of an employee's spouse.



The agreement is with effect from January 2010 to December 2010. All employees at both Lusaka and Ndola Plants have already been paid their salary, housing and shift differential arrears.



David said that the relationship with Nampak Zambia and his union Zagrawu has improved.



Steve Walsh the UNI Graphical & Packaging Head of Department said that this is an example of the benefits that having a Global Agreement brings to multi-national companies such as Nampak where because of the emphasis on dialogue, relationships between the unions and companies can improve. All parties should be congratulated on the negotiations that ensures that workers at the Ndola plant now have their wages and conditions covered by a collective agreement.



UNI Graphical & Packaging signed a Global Agreement with Nampak in 2006.
