Mexico D.F. The Evaluation meetings of unionisation actions carried out by the Industrial Union of Workers of Graphic Arts of the Mexican Republic took place on October 8th; the meetings were in the first instance held with a group of women union leaders and in the second instance with members of the Executive Committee of that organisation. Astrid Kaag, Representative of the FNV Holland, and Miriam Berlak, Consultant, chaired the meetings; Marvin Largaespada, Regional Director of UNI Americas Graphics and Packaging also attended these meetings. During the workshops with women union leaders, the issue of Sexual Harassment was treated, with the aim of overcoming the fear to be dismissed when these types of abuses are committed. For its part, the union is requesting employers that this kind of scourge should not take place in the companies; with the collaboration of one of the publishers a publication is being issued. It is aimed at the procedures to face any type of harassment; this material will be disseminated among the union’s affiliates. For its part, the Executive Committee declared that now SITAG has a new face and doors have been opened for workers become affiliated. There is evidence of the union’s getting closer to workers and their families. “we have developed training activities which have enabled us to grow significantly in terms of level of unionisation and to have more presence in multinational companies”, pointed out Porfirio Cruz, Responsible of the Organisation and International Relationships Department. As an objective for the end of 2010, the union has planned to create 4 new sections with near 200 workers; the main challenge of the union is to preserve employment and maintain the achievements.
