His appointment as Acting Regional Secretary was unanimously endorsed by the UNI Europa Executive Committee at their meeting on 29 March; he has been officially nominated for election as Regional Secretary at the UNI Europa Conference in Toulouse on 5 October 2011.



Oliver Roethig was born in Essen (Germany). He studied political science, industrial relations, history and law at the Universities of Bonn, Aberdeen and the London School of Economics. From 2003 until April 2011, he was Head of UNI Finance, the global union for the banking and insurance industry, driving UNI Europa’s work on the financial crisis, EU financial regulation and supervision, and involved in extensive work with the European institutions, building the social dialogue and European works councils. From 1998 to 2002, he was policy officer for the European regional organisation of the global union FIET (now part of UNI Global Union), with particular responsibility for European Companies (SEs) and for world youth and professional and managerial staff issues; he was executive officer of Eurocadres from 1998-2001.
