The inauguration of the new facilities of the UNI Americas Regional Office in Montevideo took place at midday on August 23^rd. The event was attended by members of the Uruguayan government and local authorities, including Uruguay’s Minister of Labour, Eduardo Brenta, and the Mayor of Montevideo Ana Olivera. Argentina’s Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Carlos Tomada, was also present in the inauguration ceremony. Many GUF representatives based in Uruguay and leaders from trade union organizations linked to UNI or collaborating with UNI in various campaigns also participated in the event. Furthermore, dozens of members of the Regional Executive Committee and Presidents of UNI Americas sectors attended the event and meetings held on August 23^rd and 24^th.



UNI Americas President Rubén Cortina, UNI Americas Regional Secretary Adriana Rosenzvaig, UNI Deputy General Secretary Christy Hoffman and the government representatives mentioned above addressed gave speeches at the inauguration ceremony.



The event allowed brothers and sisters from different countries to meet, chat and reinforce their unity as members of the international union movement. The event concluded with the "ribbon cutting" ceremony, accompanied by drumming and candombe, a rhythm introduced into popular music by Uruguayans of African origin. The inauguration was a success for UNI and all the sectors in the Americas region.
