The event will be in Salvador, capital of the state of Bahia, and it is a part of the debates around the celebration of the National Day of Black Consciousness, a holiday in many Brazilian cities every 20^th of November.



The forum aims to organise and intensify the actions to tackle racial discrimination. For this purpose, according to Deise Recoaro, the social policy secretary of Contraf/CUT, there will be a comprehensive discussion with organizations and representatives about the participation rate of black population in the labour market, focusing on the finance sector.



For Eliomar Carvalho, trade union official of the Bank Workers Union of Bahia, the Forum will be a great opportunity to debate why finance institutions hire so few black workers. “In the past, it was said that there were few black workers in the banks because of their lack of qualification. However, recent studies demonstrate that this situation is not true. There are very qualified black workers but still, not many jobs for them!” criticizes Eliomar.



“The city of Salvador is emblematic of discrimination: 80% of the population is black and many black workers are qualified; however, when you go to a high street bank, you see no black employees. We’ll discuss in the Forum the social inclusion of this group and the struggle for equal opportunities in the finance sector”, adds Eliomar.
