These proposed cuts would follow the government’s slashing of public service jobs and pay.



The strike was organised by UK unions and the national trade union centre the TUC. UNI’s one million members in the UK are supporting the strike.



“We stand in solidarity with our sisters and brothers in the UK,” said UNI Global Union General Secretary Philip Jennings. “Our private sector members know that cutting public sector pensions only leads to a race to the bottom. We believe all workers should have fair pension and pay schemes.”



Public services and public spending are vital to rebuilding the global economy. Creating quality jobs in the public and private sector is the only way to get the economy back on its feet.
