We congratulate our affiliate UNIA and the municipal, cantonal and national authorities but above all we congratulate the workers at Novartis and the people of Nyon who decided to take a stand.”



UNI, which has its head office in Nyon, has supported Novartis employees in their fight against job cuts, lending its conference facilities to the protest movement. UNI staff joined 2000 workers and community members in a demonstration in Nyon in November to demand that the company stop putting shareholders’ profits ahead of employees.



The march was organized in protest to an announcement from Novartis in October that it planned to cut 2000 jobs worldwide including 320, or almost half its workforce at the Nyon/Prangins location. The cuts were planned despite record profits for the company in the first 9 months of 2011.
