In an open letter published in US newspaper the New York Times, 11 top German attorneys call on T-Mobile USA to let its workers join a union without fear and to stop using anti-union consultants to keep employees from having union representation.



Management at T-Mobile USA, the US subsidiary of German telecom multinational Deutsche Telekom, have engaged in a long-running anti-union campaign against their own employees trying to get representation for their union CWA-TU.



“Employees of US subsidiaries of German companies, especially T-Mobile USA, should be able to exercise their unrestricted right to opt for organised representation in the company without fear,” said the signers, who include former government ministers and a leading law professor.



The signatories call on T-Mobile USA and other US subsidiaries of German companies to “abandon all efforts at union avoidance” and to “end collaboration with US consultants who advise employers how to fight employee representation.”



The message was published as an advertisement in the New York Times on Wednesday.



CWA, the German trade union ver.di, UNI Global Union and the International Trade Union Confederation created the global campaign “We Expect Better” to urge Deutsche Telekom to end its double standard of respect for workers’ rights to join a union and bargaining collectively in Germany while denying that right in the United States.
