Philip Jenning UNI Global Union’s General Secretary paid to visit to UNI Apro affiliates in Malaysia on 30March2012 under the UNI Malaysian Liaison Council (UNI MLC) in Kuala Lumpur at its Bangsar office.



Bro. Shafie BP Mammal, President UNI MLC and the 40 delegates welcomed Bro Philip Jennings and Alice Chang, UNI Apro Director of Commerce. During the gathering, the delegates heard the changes taking place in the trade union movement and the passion for organizing more workers into trade unions by UNI are on the right track – with good news from its ‘Breaking through” strategies adopted in Nagasaki.

The leaders also shared the political, economical, sectoral and trade union development taking place in the country. It was noted that UNI MLC had assisted many migrant workers in its aim for social justice, spearheaded the formation and strengthening of trade union movement in Malaysia. However the issue of organizing “freedom from fear” remains a serious issue at the ground level.

Open dialogs and the cordial discussions help all parties to gear themselves in focusing in achieving more for the trade union movement.

Bro Shafie’s report about the organizing efforts especially in the Commerce, Telecom and Media sector was very encouraging with successes recorded and good progress taking place. Our UNI MLC affiliates enjoyed comradeship in assisting each other in organizing and providing the support to organize workers into trade unions.

As a token of appreciation for the leadership and hard work of Philip Jennings as the General Secretary of UNI Global Union, the delegates surprised him with a belated birthday party.
