Trade unions representing Telefonica employees have agreed with the company to extend the application for voluntary redundancies until 15 July 2012. Since the beginning of the year, over 2,000 employees have decided to leave the company, exceeding Telefonica’s estimate of 1,500 employees for this year. The company looks to reduce its total workforce by 6,500 at its fixed-line unit and its workforce in Spain by 20%. Since 2011, over 4,400 employees have accepted Telefonica’s voluntary redundancy program.
