In his letter of congratulations, Jennings said Hollande’s election victory heralded a new period of hope in Europe and asked him to take the message of jobs and growth to the G20 which will meet in Mexico just a month after his inauguration.



Jennings said, “The French people have responded to Hollande’s call for change. His election has not only restored hope for a more just society in France but has given a fresh impetus to Europe which is being strangled by misguided austerity measures.”



“Hollande’s election is positive news for the labour movement. We are seeing a change in Europe away from austerity towards growth and François Hollande’s election symbolises this shift. With Hollande, France is returning to its true values of Liberté, Egalité and Fraternité.”



“UNI and the international labour movement are looking to President Hollande to provide the political leadership to move Europe away from austerity towards growth and jobs, especially for the disenfranchised youth,” added Jennings.
