The finance industry has a particular responsibility for economic stability, for employment and decent working conditions and thus for society at large. Furthermore, banking services are a prerequisite for economic and social participation. Universal access to high quality and affordable banking services must be guaranteed for everyone. Financial inclusion is the condition for employability as well as for access to essential services such as housing, education or health care, UNI Europa Finance argues in its consultation response to the Commission.

Banks should comply with the principle of the right of a basic bank account and employees should receive continuous training which includes awareness raising on the special situation and needs of low income clients or clients without a regular income. Bank employees must never be under pressure to refuse clients, nor to sell too many products to already financially fragile clients.

UNI Europa Finance had already responded to a previous consultation on the same subject in 2009 and will continue to argue for a fair banking service for the benefit of society at large.
