Search engine giant Google, which acquired Motorola Mobility for USD 12.5 billion in May 2012, has announced that 4,000 jobs will be cut in Motorola as part of a company restructuring. Two-thirds of the jobs lost will be outside the US, and close to a third of the company’s 94 offices worldwide will be closed.



Google earlier trimmed Motorola’s management by laying off 40% of its vice presidents, and will now shrink the phone maker’s operations in Asia and focus the research and development to Chicago, Sunnyvale (California) and Beijing. The company also plans to concentrate on building a few high-end phones instead of the 27 models it currently makes.
