The German union ver.di has called a warning strike during bargaining talks with a division of the global logistics giant DHL. ver.di and DHL Fashion are currently engaged in contract talks for workers in warehouses that store and process clothing and consumer goods for retail outlets like Karstadt and TK Maxx.



After a 7 September bargaining session ended without resolution, ver.di called for industrial action. Approximately 2,100 workers in Hamburg, Essen and Oranienburg engaged in the strike earlier this week. Contract talks were ongoing this week.



The dispute comes as DHL's global labour practices have come under scrutiny. DHL workers in Turkey were recently sacked and have spent months picketing to return to work. UNI Global Union and its sister global union federation, the ITF have told DHL it needs a global agreement to set standards and resolve incidents like this all around the world.
