The Italian Branch of Santander Consumer Bank decided to fire 20 people including employees from single income families with young children, with disabilities and with mortgages and expenses to be paid.



The "best 2012 bank in the world", according to "Euromoney" magazine, behaves in a different way in Italy,

spreading fear and desperation among colleagues.



Santander could - if it wanted to- use many alternatives as listed in The italian National Collective Agreement for the Banking Sector, avoiding the lay offs.



But Santander consciously seeked a hard confrontation.



The response from Workers and Trade Unions, to this arrogance and intransigence, can be summarized in

a single word: "fight" (or "Lucha", "Lotta").



The trade union movement will support the 20 people that are going to be fired, and launch some solidarity actions in defense of these colleagues. UNI is asking Santander Italy to change its conduct and refrain from announcing any further redundancies.
