![]() The 14th UNI Apro Post & Logistics Sector Committee met at APPU in Bangkok to discuss challenges and innovations in Asia Pacific region. This meeting welcomed participation of two observers, one from Laos Postal Union, a potential affiliate and another from Myanmar Post which does not have a union yet. Brother Christopher Ng, Regional Secretary of UNI Apro, who recently attended the World Economic Forum’s meeting in Hong Kong on Future Role of Civil Society reported that the role of CSOs including trade unions is positively being recognized in the globalization process. As part of UNI Apro's efforts to engage and increase trade unions' influence in the process of ASEAN integration and the possible formation of an East Asian Community, UNI Apro is working in cooperation with ASEAN OSHNET to construct guidelines for occupational health and safety for ASEAN's retail sector. Brother Eiichi Ito, Director for UNI Apro Post & Logistics, recounted a recent meeting with the Post Master General of Myanmar Post and his positive attitude to modernize the postal services in cooperation with employees. The Post Master General is also exploring the idea of creating a union. Labour-management cooperation is critically important to democratize and rebuild Myanmar. UNI Apro is willing to coordinate and assist our affiliates' in introducing “Partnership labor management relations” to Myanmar unions and management without experience in unionism. UNI Apro Post & Logistics has invited Myanmar Post to the joint seminar with APPU to learn how innovative postal services and trade unions can contribute to the development of the industry in other countries.
