Following the take over of SCA Packaging by DS Smith PLC, a new EWC agreement was signed between the management and employees representatives in London on 4th March 2013. UNI Europa Graphical & Packaging was also invited to sign this agreement on behalf of all the trade unions concerned by DS Smith PLC.

During this event, Joe Reed, president of the new EWC, stated that "It is essential for the members of the EWC to be in permanent contact with the workers that they represent at national level. These members must regularly inform the workers on the results of the discussions taken place in the EWC. It is also essential for the EWC members to work and to communicate together in confidence."

Nicola Konstantinou, UNI Europa Graphical secretary, stressed that the new EWC agreement was the best agreement it was possible to reach and he congratulated all those who contributed to achieve this result. He also underlined the fact that the new agreement gives a formal recognition to UNI Europa Graphical & Packaging and its affiliates. He said " This recognition gives to the graphical unions a good basis to be better recognized and to develop a better dialogue with the management in all DS Smith plants, not only in Europe but all over of the world".
