In their joint letter, they raise this concern to Members of the European Parliament and national ministers of employment and social affairs. They also urge trade unions to raise the issue forcefully with their governments, parliaments and MEPs.



The European trade unions call upon European legislators to use the opportunity of the Enforcement Directive to resolve the problem of abuse and exploitation of more than one million posted workers annually. By showing political courage and putting aside ideological concerns, they have the power to restore some confidence in the development of a social Europe.



Much to workers' surprise various Members of the European Parliament seem to believe that “more competition between workers will create prosperity”. Well, the facts have taught us that more competition between workers leads to poverty and exploitation for workers and to more prosperity for a handful of unscrupulous employers. Is this the Europe we want?



The European citizens and trade union movement will certainly follow with concern and attention the outcome of this debate in the European Parliament and unions urge MEPs to contribute with their vote to stand up firmly and condemn cross-border exploitation of workers. The European elections taking place next year will be an opportunity for European citizens – and particularly workers – to reflect and assess how their interests have been taken into account.
