The postal workers in Tunisia decided to hold an indefinite sit-in in the front of the Headquarter of the Ministry of Information Technology as of 17 June 2013.



The main reason for this action is that following the postal strike of 29 and 30 May, the Minister has decided not to pay postal workers during the two-day strike. The Fédération Générale des Poste et Télécommunications considers this decision illegal, because in Tunisia, strike days are paid for public service. Mr Stephen DeMatteo, Head of the UNI Post and Logistics Department has sent a letter of protest to the Tunisian authorities to denounce the violation of strikers rights.



Mr Stephen DeMatteo urges the Tunisian government to revive the social dialogue and get involved in dialogue to find a sustainable solution to a problem that jeopardizes the social relationship within the Tunisian post. Postal workers are planning another strike on 26, 27 and 28 June if an adequate solution to their demands is not found.
