More than 500 protesters from Argentina commerce affiliates FAECYS and UNI affiliates, members of the UNI Global Alliance Walmart, and UNI Americas Women Committee members held a peaceful rally today at Walmart’s main store in the capital against the firm’s global unethical and abusive stances.



This move comes as part of a global campaign over what is proven as Walmart’s management failings to respect workers rights wherever it operates.



The hundreds of protesters set off from FAECYS headquarters and from different points in town and were transported in buses to the main Walmart store in Constituyente carrying signs with slogans such as “Walmart: Let us move together towards change” or “Stand up to live better”.



“This is just the beginning. Our struggle continues as Walmart management persist in putting deaf ears to our calls. What’s more and unacceptable is the ongoing retaliation against Walmart workers in the US who speak out about problems at the company. This week Walmart fired 11 workers that participated in strike actions. Sooner or later, Walmart will have to listen and abide by the rules,” says Alke Boessiger, UNI Head of Commerce.





"We stand by our US brothers and sisters who fell victims of Walmart's blatant labor breaches. We must now move to another stage and target the retail giant where it hurts. Walmart's wrongdoings must stop." says Ruben Cortina, President of UNI Americas and UNI Commerce and international secretary of the Argentine Commerce and Services employees union,
