Violence at work can come in multiple forms. It can be psychological or sexual harassment, and/or physical aggression. It can be exercised by peers or other work members. Violence can be an action, it can be an omission. Violence is putting an employee’s physical and psychological health at risk; but most importantly, violence is the violation of a basic human right: the right to work in favourable conditions.

With this in mind, on May 2012, more than 70 unions in Argentina and the Ministry of Labour, signed a visionary agreement to adopt measures to prevent and handle violence at work. Their agreement condemns all forms of violence at work, and promotes collective bargaining as a means to establish policies and measures that will aid in eradicating violence from the workplace.

In order to do so, many unions are currently establishing offices destined to deal with any form of violence that might arise at the workplace. Furthermore, the partners in this agreement have been meeting frequently to discuss, implement and plan strategies in this respect.

These unions have gone the extra mile to guarantee not only decent working conditions for their affiliates, but a safer workplace, free from any form of violence.
