UNI Americas Regional Secretary Adriana Rosenzvaig signed a new agreement yesterday between UNI Post & Logistics and the Postal Union for the Americas, Spain and Portugal (known by its Spanish acronym UPAEP). The agreement lays out future cooperation between UNI and its affiliate unions and UPAEP, a Universal Postal Union restricted union, which brings together governments and postal operators in the region.



The agreement calls for cooperation between UNI and UPAEP to promote social dialogue in the postal sector, with a particular view to consider the impact on employment and worker health and safety as the sector evolves, and for postal employers to consider their social obligations and the importance of decent work in the sector. The new accord also calls for joint programs to develop skills and competences of workers, particularly with respect to implementing the UPU's International Finance System, a low-cost international money transfer system which will benefit the region's many migrant workers and their families.



UNI Post & Logistics have signed similar agreements with other restricted unions, including the Asia Pacific Postal Union, the Pan-African Postal Union and Postal Euromed. Each of those agreements have led to productive work in developing the postal sector in their respective regions and UNI is eager to begin implementing the new agreement with UPAEP.
