New head of UNI ICTS Global Union
Alan Tate has taken up the position of Head of UNI ICTS with immediate effect, moving from Campaigns Director of the UNI SCORE department, following unanimous approval by the interview panel.
UNI Global Union General Secretary, Philip Jennings said, “Alan has hit the ground running, having already attended the UNI Apro ICTS Sector Conference in Bangkok as well as co-facilitating the Apro Organisers Forum. Alan brings to the position of Head of Department of UNI ICTS a wealth of trade union and labour movement experience as well as high level organizing and campaigning skills. He has a diverse range of global trade union experience which includes holding senior trade union positions in the United States, Canada and Europe.”
“Alan has a strong grounding in the ICTS sector. He came to UNI from the CEP in Canada where he was Director of Organizing and Special Projects for Canada’s largest telecom union. His responsibilities included developing and implementing strategic organizing campaigns and well as broader labour and political campaigns. He directly led a campaign to organize call centres at Canada’s largest mobile phone operator Bell Mobility.”
“Prior to CEP Alan worked as Research Director for the GCIU in Washington DC where he was co-director of the Justice at Quebecor campaign, a successful campaign to organize workers in the southern United States at the world’s largest printing company. As a result of this innovative campaign Quebecor signed a neutrality agreement with the GCIU/Teamsters in the US and a Global Agreement with UNI.”
“In 2011 moved from CEP to UNI here in Nyon. At UNI Alan has been responsible for assisting sectors and regions implement their Breaking Through strategies, as Campaigns Director for UNI SCORE. For the past two years he has led our work on the Deutsche Post DHL campaign. He has also been responsible assisting the development of organising campaigns and campaigns for global agreements with a number of UNI sectors as well as helping to put together our hugely successful Organisers Forums.”
“Alan will be a huge asset to ICTS and our team at UNI Global Union. We look forward to continuing to work with Alan and I am sure our ICTS members will give him the warmest of welcomes.”
Alan Tate’s appointment follows the departure of Marcus Courtney as Head of Department to return to the United States where he has taken up a position as a regional director with the AFL-CIO.
Jennings said, “We wish Marcus all the best and thank him for his immense contribution as Head of Department of UNI Telecom and UNI ICTS.”
