After a large demonstration last week at the Central Mail Processing Centre in Piarco, members of the Trinidad & Tobago Postal Workers Union have been told that the back pay they are owed will be provided by the end of September. TTPWU members took to the streets to demand the pay rise they negotiated for the period 2008-2010, agreed in a collective agreement this spring, which had not yet been paid. Workers were also demonstrating against unsafe and unclean working conditions, an issue that remains to be resolved with T&T Post Corporation. The union has vowed to remain active in pursuing a resolution to the health and safety questions as well as fighting for members' backpay from the period starting 2010.
