Strengthening and improving the participation in Global Trade Union Alliances, ensuring the correct implementation of Global agreements, enhancing the involvement of trade unions in EWCs, developing an effective plan aimed at recruiting and retaining an active membership, fighting precarious work were some of the strategic priorities that Laila Castaldo, Policy Officer for UNI Europa Commerce highlighted at the final conference of a European project carried out by the Austrian GPA that took place in Brussels on 11 and 12 September 2013.



The project, entitled “Training & Backup & Linking up Commerce Trade Unions in New Member States and Candidate Countries“ and which lasted one year comprised a series of regional workshops and was aimed, amongst others, to compile a check list to help those countries in collective bargaining processes.



Participants showed appreciation for UNI’s support but encouraged UNI to fit its activities for the specificities of Social Dialogue and industrial relations in this area of Europe.



Laila Castaldo also described the project that UNI Europa Commerce is carrying out together with Eurocommerce on improving Social Dialogue and the implementation of European Social Dialogue’s outcomes at national level. The objectives of the forthcoming UNI Europa GROW Forum as well as the work of UNI SCORE were also discussed.
