The meeting of UNI Europa Women’s Committee took place in Luxembourg on the 7th of October with more than 40 participants from 17 different countries, including titulars, substitutes and observers.
The issues included in the Agenda were: the Mentoring Program, the networking projects developed by UNI Europa Women and UNI Africa Women, the World Social Forum in Tunisia and the leadership workshop for women in the Property Services Sector in Tunisia.
The participants also received an update on the meeting that took place with the MEP’s and the Head of the Equality Committee of the European Parliament, Mr. Mikael Gustafsson.
In regards to the implementation of the plan of action against violence against women, the participants were informed of the updates that the campaign “Break the Circle” (www.breakingthecircle.org ) will include in the upcoming weeks. These updates include a toolkit with policies and procedures, a guide for union leaders and for co-workers who are assisting those who are suffering from domestic violence, and the resource center that will be available at the campaign’s website. This update also includes the activities that will be undertaken for the Month of Action that will take place instead of the 16 days of activism (November 25th) with other Global Unions like PSI, EI and ITUC.
Ludo McFerran, director of the project “Safe at Home, Safe at Work” from the Center for Gender Related Violence Studies was also present to discuss this issue with the participants.
Furthermore, action plans were discussed to address issues like “Pensions and Women’s Poverty in Old Age” and “Female Unemployment in Europe”.
Finally, the participants were informed on the plans and preparations taking place for the UNI Women World Conference that will take place in Cape Town in December 2014.
