On the 3rd and 4th of September 2017, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, the UNI Equal Opportunities Department, with the support of FES, launched a new phase of the Mentoring Program for the Americas and the Caribbean. Four countries from the Americas (Colombia, Argentina, Uruguay and Mexico) joined seven Caribbean nations (Antigua, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and Dominican Republic) in this new Opening Workshop.

During the meeting, the participants discussed the methodology of the program, the roles of Mentors and Mentees, elements of a successful Mentoring Program; as well as how to report on their activities and evaluation processes. Tandems who had already participated in the Program (Argentina and Uruguay), came with new tandems and provided an enriching discussion with the new participants, as they shared their experiences, their achievements and the obstacles they faced while implementing the program.

For the next two years, the tandems formed during this workshop will work together in different areas of union work. From leadership to organizing, from union activities to meetings, from training to affiliation campaigns; participants will work together exchanging ideas, knowledge and skills, learning and growing from each other to form better and stronger unionists and union leaders.
