UNI MEI and UNI Post& Logistics have joined the efforts of Haber-Sen, a joint affiliate of the two sectors, in their fight for trade union and labour rights in Turkey. The situation has been slowly deteriorating, with mass dismissals of workers taking place in the public sector. Many union members have been affected, having either lost their jobs or having been suspended, and several of them were working for the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation.
As we understand, dismissals of public officers are conducted through publicised lists without an effective appeal mechanism in place. According to our information, dismissed public officers have no chance to be re-employed by the public sector. They lose their social security and their passport is cancelled.
UNI MEI and UNI Post& Logistics express our protest against the measures put in place in the aftermath of the failed coup attempt in July 2016 which have led to an attack on trade union rights, human rights, democracy, and rule of law and urge the Government of Turkey to stop the attack against media organisations and union members.
We call on the Government of Turkey to comply with its international obligations and to respect human rights as well as labour and trade union rights in all its actions.
In the related files you can find the two letters, one addressed to the Government of Turkey and the other to Haber-Sen and its membership.
We ask you to send messages of solidarity to Haber-Sen, using the attached letter as a model.
