UNI Europa’s Oliver Roethig and ver.di’s Frank Bsirske were reelected as UNI Europa Regional Secretary and President at the UNI Europa Regional Conference in Rome. After a successful conference which addressed the refugee crisis, anti-trade unionism and the new world of work, both were unanimously reelected at the close of the 3 day meeting in Rome.

After thanking the UNI Europa conference for their trust and confidence, Frank Bsirske warned that unions must address the changing world of work in Europe, saying, “The whole balance of power in Europe has shifted – to the loss of workers and to the strength of corporations.”

“Progress will not happen by itself. We need to make sure that all the opportunities of digitalization and the new world of work will be available to all.”

“We all know that a social Europe cannot succeed without unions,” said newly reelected Regional Secretary Oliver Roethig. “Trade unions across borders and sectors must stand together in opposition to attacks on our freedom!”
