Continuing with the work carried out by the UNI Equal Opportunities Department to provide UNI sectors with a gender perspective to their work, UNI EOD participated in the UNI MEI Conference that took place in Lisbon, Portugal on October 24th.

The meeting, which had as its theme digitalization and the new world of work, was preceded by a women’s working group, which focused on specific issues concerning the women working in the sector.

Veronica Fernandez Mendez, Head of the UNI Equal Opportunities Department, presented to the audience the campaigns, actions and programs carried out by the department to help unions include more women into their work; with a particular emphasis on the topic of violence against women in the media, which will be the focus of this year’s “Breaking the Circle Campaign”.

The meeting concluded with the adoption of a 41% women representation at the UNI MEI Executive Committee. This decision, as well as the installation of the first women’s meeting at a UNI Sector Conference, are the first steps to implementing the motion on Equality adopted at the Conference that states: “diversity is an important asset to democracy and important to creativity in media, entertainment, and arts”.
