Airport Workers and other union representatives from Germany, Sweden, Holland, Australia, the UK and Switzerland joined 150 rank-and-file SEIU members in Washington DC, the nation's capital, to learn about and to support their dynamic and successful "Fight for 15" Campaign.

Workers shared stories about substandard wages, precarious jobs, understaffing and lack of respect and dignity in this industry.  Even more importantly, they a hared story after story of workers fighting back and winning in many cities across the US at airports, fast food restaurants, in Homecare and Childcare. There is a movement across America to demand a fair slice of the pie for workers without whom companies could not provide these services.

With common global employers--airlines, airport authorities, transportation logistics companies, security and cleaning multi-nationals increasingly controlling these jobs, the need for workers to develop global strategies to raise standards is more and more important. 

This was an important opportunity for workers to make face-to-face connections and to commit to global solidarity actions over the next year. 

As the campaign slogan says, and the conference participants underscored through plans to improve standards for workers in the airline industry,  "Poverty Level Wages Don't Fly."
